Iberia Day 4.4: Laundry

I have become a believer in traveling very light when flying internationally. I can usually get by with one carry-on piece of luggage and a decent-sized under-seat bag, even when traveling for a couple weeks at a time. That means I usually only have four or five changes of clothes.

Normally, I do sink laundry every couple days. I bring some laundry sheets meant for hand-washing, I fill up the sink, I scrub like an old washer-woman, and I festoon my hotel room with wet clothes. It’s cheap and it works.

Well, I have Fes with me this time and I felt like being a little more civilized. We decided to splurge. Today, we got real fancy went to a laundromat.

This laundromat was fully automated and set into a tiny shopfront in old town Lisbon. The fees were steep (boo), but they came with detergent (yay), but the money-taking machine stole 20 Euros from me (boo), but I called the owner and he promptly refunded my money via Paypal (yay).

So now our clothes are clean for a few more days (yay) and we spent much of our time talking to an American woman who was on her way to Morocco (much yay!). I unloaded as much advice about Morocco as I could fit into the time it takes for a load of laundry to dry, so hopefully she finds it useful and has a lovely time.

We’re washing in machines instead of a sink! So bourgeoisie!
